Product Description

Dalteparin sodium is a special type of blood thinner known as a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). But what does that mean? Imagine breaking down a large, complex molecule into smaller, more manageable pieces. That's essentially what happens when we create Dalteparin from standard heparin. We use a process called nitrous acid degradation to carefully fragment the larger heparin molecule, resulting in a more refined and predictable medication.

This unique approach offers several advantages. Dalteparin is more easily absorbed by the body, works more consistently, and stays active in your system longer than traditional heparin. This means it can provide extended protection against dangerous blood clots with fewer doses.

Dalteparin's primary job is to prevent thrombotic events – the medical term for when blood clots form inappropriately in your blood vessels. It's particularly valuable for patients at risk of developing clots due to surgery, limited mobility, or certain heart conditions. In fact, Dalteparin can help prevent serious cardiac events in people with unstable angina (chest pain) or a specific type of heart attack.

One of the most exciting aspects of Dalteparin is its potential use during pregnancy. Unlike some blood thinners, Dalteparin can often be safely administered to expectant mothers who need protection against blood clots, offering peace of mind during a critical time.

While Dalteparin is highly effective at preventing clots, it's important to note that it works slightly differently from standard heparin. Due to its smaller size, it's not quite as potent at inactivating a clotting factor called Factor IIa. However, this doesn't diminish its overall effectiveness in most clinical situations.
