Product Description
Heparin is a naturally occurring anticoagulant that has a weight ranging from 3000 to 30 000 Da. It acts by binding antithrombin III that goes on to inactivate factor Xa. It acts by binding antithrombin III that goes on to inactivate factor Xa. Heparin is a fast-acting blood thinner that doctors use when they need to quickly prevent blood clots, and is mainly used for the treatment of venous thrombosis and prevention of thrombosis and embolism following a post-op of cardiac surgery. It accelerates the neutralization of coagulation factors by antithrombin, inhibiting further clotting from occurring as well as any progression of current clots from forming.
It's given through an i.v. injection, usually in a hospital setting. Heparin can be used in different amounts: smaller doses to stop clots from forming, or larger doses to treat existing clots and prevent new ones. Because it works immediately and needs careful monitoring, it's typically only used while patients are in the hospital. This makes heparin a powerful but controlled tool for managing blood clotting issues.
