Voriconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal drug that can inhibit the activity of lanosterol 14α-demethylase and 24-methylenedihydrolanosterol demethylase within fungal cells, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an important substance in the fungal cell membrane. This leads to fungal cell membrane defects and death due to leakage of important cellular components. Voriconazole has fungicidal activity against Candida species and Aspergillus species fungi, and also has fungicidal effects against other pathogenic fungi.
